During the Imperial Era, Tethysian forces who arrived to scout this distant island were greeted by giant cat-like monsters, which they called Abysso. These creatures were not only immune to dragonfire, but were also nimble and strong enough to kill most dragons in close combat! After several failed attempts to establish a presence there, the Tethysian Empire abandoned the island as a lost cause - and they called it "Felidae."
As one of the few territories in Tyrizah never conquered by the Tethysian Empire, Felidae has remained isolated for most of history. The people of Felidae lived in self-governing villages that were often terrorized by many species of monsters that shared the island. A strong warrior culture, culminating with Samurai warriors and their unique elemental ninja arts, was honed over many centuries of cut-throat competition and survival of the fittest.
In 1323 AIE, the cannon was invented by a man named Zhemushi, which granted the people an overwhelming advantage over the monsters. In 1325, due to the success of the new technology, Zhemushi was appointed the king of Felidae, uniting the island under one ruler for the first time. At Lord Zhemushi's command, Felidae conducted a twenty-year-long extermination campaign against the monsters, heralding an era of unprecedented prosperity.
The human population of Felidae rapidly multiplied, while trade with other kingdoms flourished. Felid merchants discovered they had an abundance of gold to exchange for valuable resources like iron ore, coal, and fireproof tamaha wood. However, Felidae has kept its cannon technology a strictly-guarded secret, and refrains from participating in the affairs of other kingdoms (excluding trade relations and counter-piracy campaigns).
The current king of Felidae, Lord Zetsumei, has announced plans to honor his grandfather Zhemushi by building the tallest tower in the realm of Tyrizah. The project is expected to be complete by Felidae's Centennial Jubilee (1425 AIE), a celebration to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the crowning of Lord Zhemushi.

Unlike Felidae, Yandao was conquered by the Tethysian Empire during the Imperial Era, and in modern times is still considered part of the Tethys Region. The population of Yandao is ethnically Felid, but culturally Tethysian. Because of the difference in culture and history, the people of Felidae often look down on the people of Yandao, and vice versa.
Yandao is best known for its coven of fire witches that revere the Fire Titan, Aresh. In contrast, the people of Felidae revere intellect and ingenuity, as embodied by Lord Zhemushi himself. Moreover, having no history with the Titans, the people of Felidae either doubt or deny their existence. This contributes to an attitude of scorn and self-superiority over Yandao's fire witches, whom they regard as "backwards."
